The weird thing about the gate is that it seems to be freestanding. Like, it's not blocking anything off, it's just a gate in the middle of the garden.

The lock, such as it is, is just like... a plaque with four indentations. They're not in any specific shape - maybe whatever goes in there is flexible? This all seems very symbolic and fiddly.
